Pocket bikes can be used for both recreation and competition. While it was the Japanese that invented the pocket bike form, they did not become serious racing machines until the arrival of the first Italian models from Polini. Depending on the model and HP, performance varies. The smaller industrial-motored models used by Junior class racers are capable of speeds of over 35 mph, the average 4.2 hp and 6.2 hp racing models achieve about 40-45 mph, and open class machines reach speeds over 50 mph. These speeds become even more impressive when you consider the size of pocket bikes. The average length of a pocket bike measures approximately 47 inches, and the average height is 18 inches. Indeed, these small machines are capable of great speeds and impressive racing performances.
Pocket bikes, depending on the make, are suitable for adults and for children over the age of 12. Children, though, should always be under adult supervision when riding their pocket bikes. This is not to say that children cannot ride pocket bikes. In fact, there are a growing number of racetracks and go-kart tracks that host pocket bike races for racers of various ages and skill levels.
If you are new to pocket bike riding, it is best to start small. There is a great selection of two-stroke pocket bikes that are meant for the beginner rider. Whether the bike is to be ridden by a child or by an adult, these bikes are less intense and will teach you how to ride a pocket bike without the intimidation that the larger vehicles tend to bring.
A great two-stroke pocket bike for beginner riders is the 49cc Lightening Chopper. This miniature motorcycle has a cool, sleek design that will be attractive to both children and adults. Whether you have been riding for 10 minutes or 10 years, you will look hot on this two-stroke pocket bike.
There are hundreds of online stores that offer a great variety of pocket bikes-miniature versions of actual, full-size motorcycles-that offer fun and thrills to both the young racer and the experienced professional.
